GRANVILLE, G. (fl.1741-1757) — London

Engraver. Engraved Archibald Bontein, To his Grace, John Duke of Montague … this plan, and prospects of Carthagena harbour’s &c. laid down and taken upon the spot 1744. Best known for decorative prints after Gaspard Dughet, and a landscape after Thomas Smith of Derby.

His forename was possibly Gerald: Alexander suggests he may be the “Jerry” to whom Arthur Pond made payments for touching up plates in 1744-1745 — Granville had engraved plates for Pond in 1741. Another possibility is the George Granville who appears in Westminster rate-books at an address in St. Martin’s Court, St. Martin’s Lane, from 1750 until his death in June 1763.
