
MARCUARD, Charles Samuel (1786-1820) — London
Engraver, portrait painter and lithographer. Engraved William Willermin, Plan of the action of Obidos on the 17 August 1808 1815 and Military sketch of Hyde Park ca.1815, both for the Military Depot Quarter Master General’s Office. An early print of Hermes, dated 1801, is in the British Museum.
Born in 1786 and was baptised Samuel Charles Marcuard at All Saints, Fulham, the son of the London engraver Robert Samuel Marcuard (1756-1788?), for whom see ODNB, and his wife Mary. Entered the Royal Academy Schools 9 Mar 1805. Exhibited three miniature portraits at the Royal Academy 1810-1819, but was also employed by the Quarter Master General’s Office as a draughtsman. Marcuard married Charlotte Louisa Knowles at St. Giles in the Fields on 1 Oct 1814 and a son Charles Richard Marcuard was born in 1817. Buried at Chelsea 13 Feb 1820.
