MARCUARD, Charles Samuel (1788?-1820) — London
Engraver, portrait painter and lithographer. Engraved William Willermin, Plan of the action of Obidos on the 17 August 1808 1815 and Military sketch of Hyde Park ca.1815, both for the Military Depot Quarter Master General’s Office. An early print of Hermes, dated 1801, is in the British Museum.
Born in about 1788 and appears to have been known variously as Charles Samuel or Samuel Charles Marcuard. He was presumably a son of the London engraver Robert Samuel Marcuard (1756-1788?), a pupil of Francesco Bartolozzi, for whom see ODNB. Exhibited three miniature portraits at the Royal Academy 1810-1819. Marcuard married Charlotte Louisa Knowles at St. Giles in the Fields on 1 Oct 1814 and a son Charles Richard Marcuard was born in 1817. Buried at Chelsea 13 Feb 1820 at the age of thirty-two.
