HEMMERICH (HEMERICH), Cornelius Heinrich (1724?-1760) — London
Engraver. Engraved a map of Keisler’s travels for Johann Georg Keysler, ‘Travels through Germany, Bohemia, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, and Lorrain’ 1756-1757. Also known for trade-cards, architectural plates, and in particular natural history plates, e.g. ‘A collection of curious insects’ 1750, Timothy Sheldrake, ‘Botanicum medicinale : or an herbal of medicinal plants’ 1759, etc.
Born in Nuremberg in about 1724. He died in London aged thirty-six 21 Nov 1760 and was buried 25 Nov 1760 at the German Lutheran church, Savoy, Strand. According to Strutt, his work was “neatly executed, but without taste”.
