McKAY, James (fl.1851-1864) — Southampton & Melbourne
Ordnance Survey engraver; draughtsman.
Born in Ireland in or about 1828. Lodging in Southampton in 1851 with his fellow engraver William Knight. Having emigrated to Australia, he was appointed a draughtsman in the Department of Crown Lands 1 Jan 1857. On 14 May 1864 he applied unsuccessfully for a vacancy in the photolithography branch of the Department of Lands. He has not been further traced.
