George Skene Rule

RULE, George Skene (1808-1898) — Dublin & Southampton

Engraver. Engraved maps of County Wicklow for the Ordnance Survey 1835-1836.

Born in Edinburgh and baptised at St. Cuthbert 18 Apr 1808, the son of David Rule and his wife Mary Margaret Skene or Skeen. He worked for the Ordnance Survey in Dublin and later Southampton. Rule married Mary Polson (d.1895) in Dublin 13 May 1847 and by 1851 the couple were living in Southampton with a young son. Rule subsequently returned to Dublin, where he died 5 Jan 1898.
