Henry Petch

PETCH, Henry (1798-1852) — London

His name sometime rendered in full as Henry Thomas Phillipson Petch, he was born at Louth, Lincolnshire, and baptised at St. James, Louth, 6 May 1798, the son of Hill Petch (1764-1805), a draper, and his wife Amelia Phillipson (1768-1845), who had married in London in 1787. Married Margaret Ann Greenop (1801-1860) at St. Peter Le Poer 25 Dec 1821. He joined Jacob Perkins as an engraver in 1823 and was taken into partnership in 1834, the firm becoming ‘Perkins, Bacon & Petch’. Recorded as a partner in the National Bank of Ireland in 1835, as was his partner Bacon. He was living in Gravesend in 1841, with his wife, four daughters and an infant son. Resident in Lewisham in 1851 with his wife and three daughters, recorded as a banknote engraver and printer. He died at home in Blackheath and was buried at Nunhead Cemetery 9 Jun 1852 aged fifty-three. A long and complex will (PROB 11/2156/160) was proved 12 Jul 1852.
