Samuel Ebenezer Carver

CARVER, Samuel Ebenezer (1809-1868) — London

Born at Cary Place, Lambeth, 6 Aug 1809 — the son of Samuel Carver 2 and his wife Sarah Colwell (d.1849), who married in 1807. He was baptised in a nonconformist ceremony 19 Nov 1809, and his birth registered at Dr Williams’ Library 5 Dec 1809. He married Mary Brown (1807?-1881?), with whom he had a number of children, at St. Bride Fleet Street 31 Jan 1830. Referred to specifically as a map engraver in 1836. In 1841, he received a substantial bequest in the will of his late father’s uncle, Samuel Carver 1 above. A partnership with James Cox at Buckingham Street, Strand, was dissolved in May 1846. He was the sole executor of his mother’s will in 1850 (probate granted 6 Aug 1850). By 1861, his son Samuel Robert Carver below, was also working as an engraver. He died at Asylum Road 18 Apr 1868 and was buried at All Souls, Kensal Green, 24 Apr 1868. Probate on effects of under £800 was granted to his widow, the sole executrix.
