SIMPSON, Henry (Harry) Blair (1836-1899) — London
Map engraver.
Born in Edinburgh 11 Nov 1836 and baptised 4 Dec 1836, the son of Alexander Simpson, a shoemaker, and his wife Janet White. Recorded there as an apprentice engraver aged fourteen in 1851. Was lodging in London in 1861. Married Margaret Kay (1840?-1901) in Edinburgh 3 Oct 1866. Recorded as a chart and general engraver on the 1871 census, and specifically as a map engraver on the 1881 and 1891 returns, living in London with his wife, also from Edinburgh, and five children, all born in Islington or Bloomsbury. He died in the London Hospital 11 May 1899. And was buried at Newham 17 May 1899. Probate on effects of £119.5s.5d was granted to his widow 26 May 1899.
