DAVIS, John Charles (1828-1905) — London

Born 11 July 1828 and baptised at St. Leonard Shoreditch 26 Sep 1828, the son of John Davis, a clerk, and his wife Eliza. He married Ann Miles 5 Oct 1858 at St. Mary Stoke Newington, and was recorded specifically as a map and chart engraver on the 1861 census return, when living in Hackney with his wife and two young daughters. Simply described as an engraver in 1871, he had retired by 1881 and died 29 Aug 1905 at his home in Purley — his estate stated at in excess of £22,000.
