WALKER, Robert 2 (fl.1841-1881) — Edinburgh, Govan & Southampton
Map engraver and draughtsman.
Born in Edinburgh 7 May 1819 and baptised at Old Gray Friars 7 Jul 1819, the son of Robert Walker 1 (see BME 2011), and his wife Ann Stevenson, who had married the previous year. He married (1) Mary Gentle (1819-1864) at Glasgow 28 Oct 1841. Walker was specifically recorded as a map engraver on census returns. In 1851 he was working for the Ordnance Survey in Southampton and living with his first wife, Mary, and two small children. By 1861, there were six children. In 1881 he was living in South Leith with a second wife, Maria.
