James Charles Sherriff

SHERRIFF, James Charles (1820-1851) — Calcutta

Lithographer. Superintendent of the “Bengal Military Orphan Press”. Produced Robert Montgomery, “Statistical report on the district of Cawnpoor” 1849 — with maps, some drawn by George Henry Stapleton.

Born in Calcutta and baptised 6 Feb 1820 — the son of James Urquhart Sherriff and his wife Eliza Cordelia Rothman, who had married in 1815. He died 21 Apr 1851 and was buried 22 Apr 1851 at Purasawalkam, Madras. His will and an inventory of his possessions survive in the British India Office, Wills & Probate papers.
