BERTRAM, John A. (fl.1861-1905) — Glasgow

Map engraver; wood engraver.

Born in Glasgow in 1837, the son of Hugh Bertram and his wife Mary Ann Anderson. Recorded specifically as a map engraver on the 1861 census, when living with his widowed mother in Leith. Married Janet Walker at Dunsyre, Lanarkshire, 10 Jun 1870. The Brechin Advertiser 8 Aug 1871 commended his work on a presentation medal for the Brechin Total Abstinence Society. Recorded as a copperplate engraver, employing two men and a boy, in 1881.
