LAWSON, George (1823-1867) — Edinburgh
Map engraver.
Born in Edinburgh 19 May 1823, the son of Andrew Lawson and his wife Margaret Elder. Lawson was specifically recorded as a map engraver on the 1851 census return, at which time he was living with his wife Anne and two small children. Ten years earlier he had been recorded as an eighteen-year-old apprentice, living with his parents and a number of younger siblings. He was Secretary of a subscription society formed in Edinburgh to enable artisans to visit the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. He died 3 Mar 1867.
