Bernard Oliver Walsh

WALSH, Bernard Oliver (1840-1898) — London

Map & chart engraver.

Born in London 11 Oct 1840 and baptised at St. Pancras Old Church 8 Nov 1840, the son of Thomas Walsh and his wife Rhoda Street, who had married in 1824. The younger brother of Francis John Thomas Walsh and Arthur Walsh. He was recorded as a pupil to a geographical engraver (presumably his father) in 1861. He was living with an unmarried sister in 1871. He married Emma Maria Wilks (1846-1887) from Yorkshire at Holy Trinity, Islington, 6 May 1872, then recorded as a clerk. He was living with her and a daughter in Islington in 1881, once more working as a geographical engraver. A widower by 1891, now described as a clerk to a cabinet manufacturer, he was living with another daughter and an unmarried sister. He died at Hackney aged fifty-eight and was buried at Islington 9 Dec 1898.
