William Lovell

LOVELL, William (1834-1919) — London

Engineer; model-maker; globemaker.

Born 3 Nov 1834 and baptised 30 Nov 1834 at St. Mary Islington, the son of Charles Richard Lovell (1795-1875), a butcher, and his wife Mary Ann Parsons (1796-1885), who married in 1823. Educated at the Philanthropic Institution in Reigate. Married Henrietta Susanna Harrington (1834?-1916), originally from Coventry, at All Saints Islington 7 Jun 1856. Working as a fitter & turner in 1861, living in Islington with his wife and three small children. Worked as a civil engineer and had become a machine and model maker by 1881. Recorded as a geographical globemaker in Islington in 1891, resident with his wife and two daughters, both dressmakers. In 1901 he was working from home on his own account, while his wife was a music teacher. Recorded as a retired educational globemaker in 1911, resident in Bournemouth with his wife of fifty-four years and a widowed daughter and her son. He and his wife had nine children, six still living in 1911. He died at West Ham in 1919.
