William Edward Trott

TROTT, William Edward (1840-1915) — London

Chart engraver. Produced South east Devon for ‘The route book of Devon’ published by Henry Besley of Exeter 1871.

Baptised, simply as William Trott, 16 Aug 1840 at St. Mary Abbots, Kensington, the son of George Trott (1809?-1866), leather-cutter, and his wife Caroline Bennett (1811?-1876), who had married in 1832. He had already become a map engraver by 1861, when still living at home with his parents. Married Frances Matilda Millican (1848-1936), daughter of a glass-cutter, with whom he had two children, at St. Mark, Myddelton Square, 31 May 1868. His son George Alfred Trott (1870-1919) was also recorded as a map engraver in 1891. Trott was still recorded as a geographical engraver in 1901-1911, working from home on his own account. Died 29 Dec 1915. Probate on an estate valued at £692.17s.5d. was granted to his widow 17 Jan 1916.
