TEBBETT, William (fl.1801-1810) — London
Bookseller & publisher in partnership with Peter Didier. For work and addresses see the entry for Didier.
William Tebbett married Sarah Flower (d.1812) at St. James Piccadilly 20 Feb 1781. Their daughter Sarah Cecilia (Cecilia Flower Sarah) Tebbett (1782-1865) married Peter Didier at St. George Hanover Square 13 Jan 1801 and from that point, if not earlier, Tebbett and Didier traded in partnership as ‘Didier & Tebbett’ at their ‘Juvenile Library of English, French, and Italian Books, and Repository of Instructive Games’ until at least 1810. The partners were declared bankrupt 15 Jan 1810 (dividends paid in 1811-1812) and from that point Didier appears to have traded alone. Tebbett was described as being “of Blenheim” when his wife was buried at Woodstock alongside a grand-daughter 23 Feb 1812. He has not been further traced, but may possibly have been the man of this name buried at Market Harborough 3 Apr 1824 aged seventy-two.
